NYS Insurance Superintendent Eric Dinallo said all the right things at the ARCC's health insurance luncheon the other day.
* The current file-and-use health insurance rating system where the insurers set their own skyrocketing rates without state approval doesn't work for businesses and consumers.
* The insurance companies should be providing rate and benefit information to small businesses earlier than the Monday before Thanksgiving when open enrollment closes a week later.
* The state and local chambers should find a way to better market and sell the Healty New York program to eligible small businesses and their employees.
* The bureaucracies and administrative procedures created by insurance companies are byzantine and excessively costly and inefficient.
Now the job is to get something done on each of these items to reduce health insurance rates.
