What our children want to be...

For more than 30 years, the ARCC has worked with its members to create a job shadowing program for area high school juniors. The participating students tell us the careers in which they are interested and we work with local guidance counselors to place these students with local employers. You might say this is our own "I Live New York" effort to showcase the career options for those young people who decide to live in our region.

What is interesting about this survey is to look at the most popular career selections of our region's young people. For 2008, here are the top career choices starting with the most popular: teachers; law enforcement; nursing; engineer; lawyer; veterinarian; automotive; music; and radio/television broadcasting. With more than 130 surveys from six local school districts in Washington and Warren Counties, perhaps this is an indication of what our children want to be when they grow up.
