The Adirondack Regional Chamber of Commerce is dedicated to helping local companies succeed, grow and thrive. We do all the traditional things you associate with a chamber of commerce: administering health insurance plans, providing forums for networking and business enrichment, offering social events from time to time and of course fielding questions from folks not from this area. But don't think it's all just run of the mill how it's always been done chamber of commerce stuff.
The ARCC has operated a leadership building program for over 15 years now called Leadership Adirondack. The course has always been focused on educating local business people about the different aspects of life, business and community in our region. The hope is that it will cultivate a group of individauls who will go out and become leaders of the community, giving back and enriching the quality of life for everyone.
The past few years there have been changes to the program that have revitalized the program. For the second year the program kicked off with a retreat at The Sagamore Resort. After many years of roughing it in the woods, the classes bunked in lodge suites at the resort and spent two days with Kay Walter from Teams on Purposes learning the ropes and creating truly remarkable bonds.
After the retreat the class took part in sessions about twice a month. A new addition this year was a visit to WNYT Nes Channel 13 in ALbany. The class met with the News Director Paul Lewis, General Manager Steve Baboulis, and John Hodgens from the Sales Department. After a thourough no holds barred discussion the class was in the studio for the noon broadcast with Kelly Lynch and Jason Goff.
This year's class ended the program with an impressively executed class project fundraiser. The event was held at The Sagaore Resort where more than 200 people took part in a silent auction to benefit the Cornerstone Soup Kitchen and Pantry and the Domestic Violence Project. The keynote speaker was Warren County District Attorney, Kate Hogan.
