Hospital Invites Businesses to "Raise the Roof"

The Glens Falls Hospital Foundation is encouraging area businesses to sing, dance and donate to help the hospital replace the roof and air handling system at the Floyd H. Rourke Inpatient Surgery Center, one of the hospital’s busiest service areas.

As part of its 2010 Annual Fund campaign — dubbed “Raise the Roof” — the Foundation has produced an original “Raise the Roof” song, composed by local musician Richie Ortiz, and a music video featuring members of the regional community along with Hospital physicians, employees and volunteers doing the “Raise the Roof” dance.

The video can be seen at glensfallshospital.org (click on “Give to Glens Falls Hospital”), at facebook.com/gfhfoundation and at youtube.com/user/gfhfoundation.

Now, the Foundation is encouraging area businesses to produce their own Raise the Roof music video in support of the Surgery Center. To see how to do the dance and submit your video, please click here and check out the team from Tribune Media Services in action. Businesses needing help to produce their video are asked to call the Foundation at 926-5960.

The year-long “Raise the Roof” campaign melds two distinct and decidedly different elements of Americana — the colonial American tradition of community volunteers joining together to help their neighbors build, and the 1990s wedding dance craze, “Raise the Roof,” in which participants enthusiastically (and often amusingly) push their palms toward the sky.

Most importantly, says Foundation Vice President Ray Agnew, “This project is all about making our Surgery Center as comfortable as possible for our patients, and providing our surgeons and staff with a surgical facility that enables them to utilize their skills and expertise to the highest possible level.”

Surgeons and staff at the Floyd H. Rourke Inpatient Surgery Center at Glens Falls Hospital perform more than 16,000 procedures each year, including many clinically advanced and minimally invasive procedures. The advanced surgical technologies now in use at the Center generate far more heat and are far more sensitive to temperature and humidity fluctuations than earlier generations of technology. To ensure continued optimum performance, the Center’s 36-year-old heating/ventilation/air conditioning system — and the nearly 20-year-old roof that supports it — must be updated.

A video illustrating the need for the new HVAC and roofing system can be viewed at the Hospital Foundation’s Web site, Facebook page and YouTube channel.

Businesses and individuals interested in making a gift to the 2010 Annual Fund can do so through the Foundation’s secure online giving page; by sending a check to the Glens Falls Hospital Foundation, Annual Fund 2010, 126 South St., Glens Falls, NY 12801; or by calling (518) 926-5960.
