Glens Falls National Bank & Trust Company Named on ABA Education Foundation Honor Roll

The American Banker’s Association (ABA) Education Foundation recently named Glens Falls National Bank & Trust Company to its 2010 Education Foundation Honor Roll which recognizes banks across the nation for their part in bringing savings education to more than 640,000 students this year. According to the ABA, “The popular Teach Children to Save Program, started by the Foundation in 1997, is exclusively for bankers and is the only industry-wide, national financial education initiative.”

Glens Falls National’s program began on April 27th, ABA Education Foundation 14th Annual National Teach Children To Save Day and ran through June 15th. The Bank served more than 2,500 children in Kindergarten through Sixth Grade at 15 area school districts. Participating school districts included; Queensbury, Lake George, Warrensburg, North Warren, Bolton, Hartford, Argyle, Hudson Falls, Fort Edward, Fort Ann, Cambridge, Schuylerville, Ticonderoga, Chazy, and BOCES.

The Glens Falls National Bank Teach Children To Save program was made possible by the commitment of the Bank and the dedicated employee volunteers from all areas in the Bank with an interest in making a difference in the lives of children and families in our communities. Age-appropriate lessons, provided by the ABA Education Foundation, were delivered in a friendly and engaging manner.

Melissa LaFiura, Glens Falls National’s Education and Training Manager explained, “The opportunity to help children develop good saving and spending habits was its own reward for Bank employees. Lessons explored the differences between needs and wants, identifying expenses, highlighting ways to reduce spending as well as basic budgeting information. Glens Falls National Bank’s hope is to inspire children to become lifelong savers with the knowledge to save money safely and spend money wisely.”
