Nothing Short of A Crisis

Winter is coming, not everyone will be ready.

Right now as we revel in the last beautiful days of summer, it is easy to forget what will soon be upon us. Winter is coming and if reports are correct it will be bitter and fierce and more expensive than ever before to keep our houses, and the families inside of them, safe and warm.

Why must we act now? Local fire companies are concerned that many families will resort to unsafe methods to keep warm and to heat their homes this winter. Local organizations that provide food assistance have less food to give because of rising prices and increased demand as more people they've never seen before are asking for assistance.

The time to address what will surely be a community-wide challenge is here.

Thankfully there is good news: We live in a community that has a rich history of neighbor helping neighbor. Starting this week, two local organizations will host community forums for this shared cause, the well-being of our neighbors. These groups are inviting us to join together now, so that later, as the nights grow longer and the temperatures plummet, we can sleep knowing that we have helped.

We like to say that this is a place where you can "Live like you're on vacation." This winter we want it to be a place where you can live.

Please consider attending "A Forum on Energy Challenges" on Thursday, September 4th, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the Kingsbury Fire House, on Burgoyne Avenue, in Hudson Falls AND/OR "A Community Forum on Urgent Needs" on Monday, September 8th, at 7:00 p.m., at the Glens Falls Civic Center, in Heritage Hall. We need your input and help.
