Six Flags Friends, the philanthropic arm of Six Flags, and Cure Kids Cancer have teamed up once again to raise awareness and funding for pediatric cancers through its "A Walk In The Park" program. This unique walk-a-thon event will take place at all domestic Six Flags properties throughout the summer including The Great Escape on Sunday, June 27.“A Walk in the Park” is intended to educate communities across the United States about the real need to find a cure for childhood cancers - the number one cause of death by disease among children. All funds raised at The Great Escape will benefit The Children’s Hospital at Albany Medical Center. This year, the park honors Myles McAdoo as the “Walk in the Park” Ambassador. Myles, age 7, was diagnosed in 2005; just two weeks shy of his third birthday, with medulloblastoma, a very uncommon brain tumor.
Despite the challenges he faces, Myles refuses to let that take away from his infectious smile and remarkable spirit. He has been in remission for two years. He represents only one of the millions of children affected by cancer in the United States.Any walker who raises $50 will receive a free admission ticket to enjoy The Great Escape following the event. All proceeds raised from the local walk will benefit the Children’s Hospital at Albany Medical Center for research and programming for children with cancer and blood disorders in our community. “A Walk in the Park” will feature breakfast, a live DJ and a host of Looney Tunes characters for photo opportunities. Those interested in the event may visit http://www.walkintheparks.org/ for more information and to register to walk as an individual or team. The $15 individual walker registration fee includes breakfast the morning of the event, a gift bag, a t-shirt and the ability to purchase discounted admission to enjoy Six Flags rides and activities following the walk. Teams of ten or more are only charged $10 per individual.
Guests who are unable to participate in the walk can support of the cause by making a one-time donation at http://www.walkintheparks.org/.
